My Role - Solo Mock UI/UX Project
Timeline - 6 Weeks
Maynooth Furniture, is a new furniture company selling affordable, high-end design furniture made in Ireland. The mock client is asking to design homepage, category page, and product listing page. This is a mock project, and brief is given by an online instructor to design an App and a Website for a furniture e-commerce brand. I wanted to learn all the nuances related to design and development for such project. The following persona is targeted audience.
Project Brief
Persona + User Scenario
“Katherine has lots of resource and time to shop furnitures online, she’s indecisive and tend to spend too much time on different websites with way too many options, yet still find it difficult to make decision on purchase.
This made me questioned - Why can’t my user purchase with confidence?
What made the over all experience and information exchange less effective for my users?
Competitive Analysis
Researched on two given competitors, noticed each website contain too many products, and have different themes that very easily to distract from one to another. Considering my user have lots of time to browse, having too many options is not a good strategy lead to the final purchase. The browsing experience should enhance the desire for user to make decision instead of spending too much time on different choices then fail to purchase.
www.made.com
• The information exchange was cluttered
• Too much products traffics
• Too many generic products
• Unnecessary product listings
www.habitat.co.uk
• Homepage is unorganized
• Themes are not cohesive
How to simplify the browsing experience and accelerate decision making for the users?
Defining the Problem + Solutions
• A well organized flow to help users consume sufficient knowledge related to the specific choice
• Deliver straight to the point information related to the product
• Only suggest related product with selected choice
• Overall cohesive theme
Redesign + Improvements
2 Major design improvements
Based on the feedbacks from my mentor and analysis, I started to iterate design for 2 week.
Redefine browsing & shopping experience
I created unique and beautiful themes allowing users to immerse themselves within the experience, embedding with design ideas and product reference to promote decision making and final purchase
Final Product - Website
Final Product - App
The Style Guide
Summary
What I Have Learned……
This was my first mock project with given brief and requirements, this project allowed me to showcase my aesthetics and design from my architectural background.
1. User Interface - Through this project I have learned to use both Figma and AdobeXD, prototype, and UI design. Particularly excited about using interactive/motion design to generate micro-animation to illustrate design ideas.
2. User-centered Research - This mock project was asked to design for a given persona, the user analysis is speculative based on user’s age, interests, and background. In the future I like to access real users and conduct interviews to collect accurate data, and use that analysis to carry out design process and decision making.
