My Role - Solo Mock UI/UX Project
Timeline - 12 Weeks
Young professional failed to achieve their personal goals.
Problem
As a young professional, I’ve seen many of my peers and myself were able to persevere towards our academic and professional pursuits. However, we have failed to accomplish our personal goals. This sparked the question in me - Why was there a disconnect achieving personal goals?
A secret to achieve personal goals with 95% success…..
White Paper Research
Starting with white paper research, I began to draw from research articles on the topic of goals, motivation, and achievement. When I stumbled upon an eye-opening statistic from the American Society of Training and Development: “….people are 65 percent likely to meet a goal after making their goal public. But their chances of success increase to 95 percent when they have a specific accountability partner to report to”
Competitive Analysis
The competitions had no accountability aspect.
While keeping the above statistic in mind, I analyzed the 4 most popular apps from app store surrounding this goal/productivity space. I found that almost none of them had this aspect of an accountability partner to help the user achieve their goals. This then became my opportunity for the solution.

User Interviews
My interviewees were 3x more likely to succeed with accountability for their goals.
After seeing the accountability psychology + competitions in this area, I’ve conducted interviews with 8 young professionals who failed at achieving their personal goals. I’ve asked them questions below to find trends on why they failed at some goals versus others, then organized my data through affinity mapping.
Research Questions:
1. Tell me about the last goal you set?
2. What was the most difficult part about trying to achieve your goal? Why?
3. What motivated you to start in the first place?
4. What was your process for trying to achieve that goal?
5. Tell me about a time you had to do something difficult and accomplished it.
Due to lack of accountability, previous apps didn’t work successfully on my interviewees.
Based on the trends in my affinity map, I’ve discovered if there is no real consequence (accountability) associated with not achieving their goals, same case as previous apps they’ve used, motivation to continue cease to exist.

Catering towards 3 main flows
Keeping the following 3 main flows in mind, I started off with User Flow diagram to understand specific purpose for each step from onboarding to manage goals. Then I worked through Wireframe to ensure all contents are purposely displayed and analyze how users interact with the interface. Lastly I tested the app through Hi-Fi Prototyping and improvement.

Summary
What I Have Learned…….
This was my very first complete UX project, and I am very excited to take on more challenges with everything I learned from this experience.
1. Iteration - Through iterating process from the beginning, I have learned and explored many different options and solutions to better fit my user’s needs. Always keep open mind because the end result can be different from the initial expectation. Not to mention always keep WCAG standard in mind when it comes to UI design.
2. Empathy - I have learned to put my own opinions aside and truly accept what I hear and see from the users, and design tailor to their needs. All the insights and information I gathered during the interview process has carried out the entire decision making process. One of biggest lesson I learned !
